An economy! = A family. You can afford all these things, but you continue to provide tax breaks for the wealthiest people in society while eroding working conditions. The waste in medical chaos alone can pay for universal medical expenses. An affordable place to live without worrying about bankruptcy due to a health crisis between jobs will immediately prevent a large number of chronic homelessness. The social Darwinian approach is failing miserably. As an outsider, the streets of America are the saddest place I have ever seen.
Dignity, preventing homelessness before it happens, and solving health problems on a serious level all have real economic benefits. It’s time for our economists to start thinking about them instead of making excuses for why we shouldn’t.
