Mohit Jain of The Economic Times, on Friday, was elected President of the Indian Newspaper Association (INS) for the 2021-22 year, succeeding Lakshmipathi Ademulam of Health and Purgatory.

K Raja Prasad Reddy of Sakshi was elected as Vice President at the 82nd Annual General Meeting of INS. Rakesh Sharma of Aaj Samaj was elected Vice-Chairman and Tanmay Maheshwari of Amar Ujalla as Treasurer.

Marie Paul is the General Secretary of the Society and, speaking at the General Assembly, Ademolam noted that due to dwindling readership and advertisements and severe disturbances in the circulation of newspapers and magazines, the media had to resort to taking extreme steps such as reducing the number of pages and closing the editions.

Noting that newspaper production costs are high and the product needs proper pricing, Ademolam also called for collective bargaining with global social media companies, which he said capture a large portion of the revenue.
