PVR Cinemas has entered into a new partnership with the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the live screening of the 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup in India. As part of the deal, PVR Cinemas will show all India matches along with the semi-finals and finals. PVR said in an official statement that these matches will be shown in more than 75 cinemas and in more than 35 cities in India. The seventh edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup begins on October 17, 2021 and is finalized on November 14, 2021.
“We are very pleased to learn about the relationship with the ICC. The big screen provides a unique opportunity to maximize coverage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Cricket and films complement each other as in India, they are two religions that unite the country,” said Gautam Dutta, CEO of PVR Ltd, Watching movies and watching cricket is a combined entertainment experience and when zoomed in on the big screen it gives an adrenaline rush of fans just like a stadium.
After facing strict lockdown restrictions for a long time, the multiplexing industry is still in a revival mode. So far, cinemas in India are operating under restricted working capacities and hours. But some states like Telangana, Rajasthan and Karnataka allow 100% work. As audiences gradually resume the movie-watching experience with new movies released, showing T20 matches on the big screen will further help bring audiences back to cinemas, says PVR.
The cinema chain has 849 screens in 177 facilities in 72 cities in India and Sri Lanka. PVR offers a range of formats in the premium screen category as well. It claims to have a loyalty base of 1.2 million as part of the PVR franchise program.
