Banaras Locomotive Works of Indian Railways recently distributed self-employment kits and certificates to trainees under Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana. This was the culmination of the 100-hour training program organized by the production unit to train the first batch, in art trade. Mechanic, electrician, fitter and welder, under the Kaushal Vikas Yojana railway programme. In total, 54 trainees received tool kits as well as certificates at an event organized on October 13, 2021. The Modi Government’s Kaushal Vikas Yojana Railway Program empowers local youth by offering entry-level training in industry-related skills through railway training institutes.
According to the Ministry of Railways, this program seeks to advance the Prime Minister’s vision of giving confidence to the youth of India, as part of the 75 years of Azadi Ka Mahotsav. Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana is under the auspices of the Government’s PMKVY scheme to achieve the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat. Under this, 50,000 young people in total will be trained over three years in 75 railway training institutes, spread across the country.
The Indian Railways Production Unit – Banaras Locomotive Works was commissioned as the contract agency for the implementation of the RKVY programme. The ministry further said that the course content and evaluation procedures for the training were developed by this production unit. For the RKVY program, trainees are selected through an open advertisement and transparent shortlisting mechanism. The trainees in this program underwent 100 hours of practical and theoretical training. After training, all trainees underwent a standardized assessment. Besides, certificates are awarded to successful trainees.
A unique initiative has been taken by Banaras Locomotive Works to provide all successful trainee trade-related toolkits. This toolkit, according to the ministry, will help trainees boost their skills and self-confidence. In addition, this toolkit will help the trainees to use what they have learned, their ability to be self-employed, and their employability in various industries.
