Before the start of the Covid-19 outbreak, Panasonic introduced its IoT & AI-enabled platform – Miraie. “Mirai” means “future” in Japanese while “ie” means “home”. The platform meets the evolving needs of customers to interact with all of their Panasonic smart devices – connected refrigerator, washing machine, Wi-Fi fan, ROMA smart digital switches and Wi-Fi smart switches and controls – giving them a full suite of connected living solutions for a future home. The platform was conceptualized and developed at the Panasonic India Center for Innovation in Bengaluru.

Cut to the present. The diversified Japanese technology group introduced the MirAIe Profactory platform, an industrial IoT/Smart Factory solution developed locally in India’s innovation hub. This is an industrial IoT platform for machine and plant management. It is compatible with different types of machines, models and brands in the manufacturing space.

Here’s a quick look at its unique selling point: First, it’s plug and play, easy to use, and expandable. Second, the data can be used immediately because it eliminates the time-consuming data flag setting. Third, the user can realize instant value because the platform comes with out-of-the-box applications without the need for initial development. Fourth, the platform connects to everything and seamlessly integrates machine data across your digital factory. Fifthly and most importantly, the MirAIe Profactor platform provides the necessary context to enable immediate action based on data points.

“MirAIe Profactory will enable Indian manufacturers to digitize their plant operations, allowing companies to realize the true potential of Industry 4.0,” says Manish Sharma, CEO of Panasonic India. “The platform uses state-of-the-art technologies like cloud, Internet of Things, analytics, and mobile app to name a few, to manage end-to-end processes that improve production efficiency and quality, identify issues, reduce downtime, and create economies of scale,” FE stated on the sidelines of the launch MirAIe Profactory at the Panasonic Smart Factory Solutions India (PSFSIN) facility at Technopark in Jhajjar, Haryana.

The MirAIe platform removes manual interference from machine data acquisition and brings the entire shop floor in the palm of your hand, Panasonic India President explained. “Our cloud infrastructure helps our customers analyze machine data on a real-time basis, optimize machine operation, and improve overall equipment efficiency,” he said. The platform collects data from any device by connecting the MirAIe Profactory gateway. Software on the portal processes data from the device in real time and securely streams the data to the MirAIe Profactory cloud. The solution is currently available in four types and can be customized from basic to advanced according to the requirements with value-added features. It is successfully operated in 20 individual customer locations across the country.

“Smart factories are strategic business investments,” Sharma says. “They help manufacturers go digital, deliver competitive advantage, innovate and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) while saving major costs. In our pilot projects, we’ve seen an 8-15% increase in the productivity of our manufacturing facilities. Explaining the core technology and methodology, Manish Misra, Chief Innovation Officer, Panasonic India Center for Innovation, said, “MirAIe Profactory is the one-stop solution for deployment, service, and business intelligence needs. It enables manufacturers to design paperless digital store floors, drive machine efficiency, and increase plant operations. To the fullest extent, that is, monitoring production efficiencies directly from purchase to final assembly.”

Panasonic’s IoT solution leverages capabilities through vertical integration, i.e. hardware and software to bring operating technology (OT) and information technology (IT) closer together for a single panoramic view. Data analytics improves OEE by providing real-time insights that allow companies to optimize collection units faster and more efficiently through predictive maintenance, real-time monitoring, and quality management processes. “Remote monitoring through a mobile phone, a single control panel for all operations with a unique user interface are some of the additional features that will help in automating and ensuring contactless management,” he said.
