The cost of petrol in Mumbai remains the highest across metro cities, at 111.77 rupees per liter. The cost of diesel in the country’s financial capital is Rs 102.52 per liter. The difference in prices between Delhi and Mumbai is due to the different local VAT charges in different cities. Gasoline and diesel prices are determined based on freight charges, local taxes and value-added tax. Gasoline has crossed the Rs 100 liter mark in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Ladakh and some cities of Bihar and Punjab.
