Police said on Saturday that two people were arrested for threatening to kill famous vocalist Professor Rashid Khan. They said the duo, who are former employees of Khan, also asked him for money.
A senior police officer said one of the accused, a former assistant of the ace musician, was arrested from Uttar Pradesh, while his former driver was arrested from Kolkata. He said that they initially demanded 50,000 rupees as protection money, then reduced the amount to 20,000 rupees, threatening to kill Khan if the amount was not paid. Khan, a pioneer of Indian classical music who has been honored with the Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Academy Award, told reporters that his family members had filed a complaint at Netaji Nagar Police Station on October 9. He was our former driver and assistant. They threatened to attack my family with snipers and drones and we cannot ignore that.”
