Officials stressed that the area is mountainous and the forests are dense, which makes the operation difficult and dangerous. So far, the hiding terrorists have been contacted three times – first on October 11 at Surankot in Poonch, and this was followed by another exchange of fire between security forces and fleeing terrorists in the neighboring Thamanandi forest in Rajouri district on the same day, but the ultras managed to take control on them. Officials said that the entire jungle area from Mandhar to Thanamandi is still under strict cordon and a large-scale search operation is underway to neutralize the terrorists who are moving from one place to another trying to escape from the traction network.

The military deployed semi-commandos and a helicopter was seen hovering over the forest area for observation on Saturday. Officials said traffic between Mandhar and Tanmandi along the Jammu and Rajouri Expressway remained suspended for the third day on Sunday following the ongoing operation.

Rajouri and Punch in Jammu region have seen a rise in offside attempts since June of this year. Nine terrorists were killed in separate confrontations.
