Their samples were sent to the National Center for Disease Control for genome sequencing to confirm if they had the new variant, Omicron, which has been classified as a variant of concern by the World Health Organization.

A total of eight people from high-risk countries have tested positive for COVID-19 since stricter criteria for international travelers went into effect at midnight Tuesday. Eight passengers infected with the Covid virus and two other passengers showing Covid-like symptoms were taken to Lok Nayak Hospital, where a dedicated ward was set up to isolate and treat these patients. According to the center, the countries classified as “at risk” are European countries, including the United Kingdom, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Israel.
