The Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Chani, was trying his hand at hockey at the Mohali Stadium, where he was seen with his goalkeeper kit.

Chaney made a surprise visit to the International Hockey Stadium in Mohali and spent about an hour meeting the field players, PTI reports.

Former Indian hockey player Prabhajot Singh hit the goal post and Chani “easily” stopped it.

“Chani Sahab stopped the balls easily,” said former Indian hockey goalkeeper Baljit Singh Dadhual and added that although the Prime Minister is 58, his reflexes are still very good.

Take to Twitter, Chaney said he was a handball player during his college days. He added, “I felt so relieved playing with these young players on the hockey field today. These guys are the future of hockey and I am fascinated by their love for the game.”

The goalkeeper’s kit was arranged and Chaney stood at the goal post and asked the young players to shoot the ball.

“His visit was a motivation for the young players as the Prime Minister met them and played with them too,” Dadwal said, adding that it was an unforgettable experience for them.

Chani became the chief minister of Punjab last month after Amarinder Singh resigned amid a bitter power struggle with Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu.
