The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Trisur, Palakkad and Malappuram.

On Saturday, the meteorologist issued an orange alert for Kerala’s Ernakulam and Idukki hills districts for the day, indicating heavy rain. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), in its bulletin, has issued a yellow alert for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Trisur, Palakkad and Malappuram. Yellow alert sounds when isolated heavy rain is possible.

Heavy rains were reported from Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts. “In Idukki, it is raining moderately and there is nothing to worry about so far,” said Shep George, her university.

Sources from Pathanamthita district told PTI that minor landslides were reported from deep forests near Setathudhu and Angamuzhi, but it was too early to assess the damage.

Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has issued a warning of possible cyclone spinning near Kerala and Lakshadweep due to heavy rains for today and tomorrow.

On the other hand, the Kottayam administration expressed gratitude to the army forces from Bangud military station for carrying out diligent relief operations. The army has deployed about 40 personnel in Kottikal, Kottayam district, for rescue and relief operations. On October 15 and 16, the state witnessed heavy rains that caused landslides and torrential rains in the south-central parts of the city, killing more than twenty people.
