A special court in Mumbai on Friday allowed the Mumbai police to arrest sacked police officer Sachin Wiese for questioning in connection with a racketeering case.

Earlier, Mumbai Police approached the court to request the detention of Sachin Vaz to investigate the extortion case registered against him and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh at Gurgaon Police Station by businessman Bimal Agarwal.

The Mumbai Crime Branch, which is investigating the racketeering case registered at the Gurgaon Police Station, has requested the detention of Vaze from the Special Court for further ‘necessary investigation’ into the crime. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh is also accused in the case.

Given the fact that Waze recently underwent an operation, the court requested a report on his health from the prison authorities.

Special Judge AT Wankhede, after finding him fit to travel for a few days, ordered the prison authorities to hand over his custody to the Mumbai Police on 1 November.
