Renowned ex-captain Rahul Dravid is sure to be the next coach of the Indian cricket team after he formally applied for the senior position on Tuesday. (more cricket news)

With the advancement of Dravid, the current president of the National Cricket Academy, the task of the Cricket Advisory Committee becomes easier as there are no big names in the fray that can match the stature of the great batsman.

Also, he is known to be the first and only choice of BCCI Chairman Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah.

“Yes, Rahul has officially applied today because it is the last day of the deadline. His NCA team, bowling coach Paras (Mambri) and field coach Abhay (Sharma) have already applied. His request was just a formality.” An official at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry told PTI on Tuesday.

Dravid had recently met with the elite Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dubai on the sidelines of the Indian Premier League final between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings where Ganguly and Shah spoke to him about taking the job once Ravi Shastri steps down at the end of India’s campaign at the ICC. T20 World Cup.

Under Dravid’s leadership, a new era in Indian cricket will begin with the domestic series against New Zealand where he will take charge with a new T20 captain, who will most likely be Rohit Sharma.

Laxman in conflict with the NCA, Kumble could appear out

The former India battling great VVS Laxman could once again be in the fray for the presidency of the National Cricket Academy should the post become vacant in the coming days.

It has been learned from sources that Laxman may not continue as a mentor for the IPL Sunrisers Hyderbad side and should he be selected, he will also have to leave his media commitments including commentary and writing columns.

The National Coach and NCA President are expected to work in close coordination with the interests of Indian cricket in mind.

It is understood that Dravid and Laxman, who have had a close relationship since the time he played for the southern region and then for India for nearly a decade and a half, would be the perfect choice.

Another aspect to be identified is the fact that Laxman resides in Hyderabad, where he has a young family with only teenage children, as well as elderly parents.

He learned that Laxman was reluctant to accept the offer of the Director of NCA Cricket but the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry would approach him again.

If the offer is rejected again, they will have to look for other options. Anil Kumble is another big name but it remains to be seen if BCCI will reach out to the former India captain.

The NCA role has worked well for Dravid as he is based in Bengaluru.

In Laxman’s case, if he has to stay in Bengaluru for at least 200 days in a year, it’s like changing the rule temporarily and his wages must also be deducted.
