The clamor of Durga Puja in Maha Navami and Vijayadachami may be affected slightly with the Meteorological Department expecting rain or thunderstorms in southwest Bengal on these two days. The weather official said the rain was likely to intensify from Saturday.
Newly dressed people visiting Durga Puja in Kolkata were surprised by the showers on Wednesday night. With visitors banned from marques as per COVID-19 guidelines, many people found no shelter and soaked in baths that lasted about 30 minutes. Kolkata recorded 10.7 mm of rain, while Dum Dum in the northern suburbs of the city received 23.4 mm of rain, the Indian Meteorological Department said.
The weather factor has predicted ‘light to moderate rain’ in all districts of South Bengal until the morning of October 19, after which it could increase in intensity in some places. Thunderstorms with lightning may occur in Kolkata on Thursday (Maha Navami) and Friday (Bigoya Dashami). The meteorologist added that the provinces of South and North 24 Barganas, Borba and Bashim Medinipur are likely to experience heavy rains with gusty winds of 30-40 kilometers per hour as of October 17.
