Calcutta, October 17: Ramakrishna monk Riaz Swami Amyanandaji Maharaj died in a hospital run by the spiritual organization on Sunday evening. He was 90 years old. He died around 8.25pm at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pristan where he was admitted to treat aging-related ailments, math authorities said in a statement.
The statement said Swami Amyanandaji has been the head of the Gyarampati Center for nearly two decades and the Dhaka Center for three years in various stages. In a message of condolence, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee said the work and life of the monk will be a guiding light for thousands of mathematicians and expeditions. “His death caused a void in the spiritual world,” she said.
The monk’s remains will be kept at Belur Math, the world headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission, from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Monday, and his last rites will be performed at 9pm in Math.
