The Defense Research and Development Organization and the Indian Air Force team successfully tested the indigenously developed long-range bomb from an air platform here on Friday, defense sources said.
The LR bomb, after being launched from an Israeli Air Force combat aircraft, was precisely directed at a long-range ground target within specified limits. They said that all mission objectives had been successfully met.
The sources said the bomb’s flight and performance were monitored by a number of range sensors, including an electro-optical, telemetry and radar tracking system deployed by the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha. The LR bomb was designed and developed by the Imarat Research Center (RCI) in Hyderabad in coordination with other DRDO laboratories.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, IAF and other teams associated with the successful flight experience and stated that this will prove to be a force multiplier for the Indian Armed Forces. In his message to the teams, DDR&D Minister and Head of DRDO, G Satheesh Reddy, said the successful flight test of the long-range bomb is an important milestone in the domestic development of this class of systems.
