Chris Eubank Jr. will not fall for the actions of his opponent, Annick O’Degan, “Mr. Nice Guy” and vowed to punish him for their war of words.
Eubank Jr returns to the ring on Saturday night in Newcastle, live on the Sky Sports Main Event and Arena from 7.30pm, along with Hughie Fury’s heavyweight fight and Savannah Marshall’s world title defense.
Eubank Jr insisted he provoked Odigan’s verbal provocations: “Yes.
“The press conference started with trying to be the nice guy and complimenting me – ‘I’m a great boxer’ and all that stuff.
“But you can’t go from saying the things you said on social media and then trying to be Mr. Latif Jay.
“I won’t let that fly.
“So I called him, and then we saw his true colors.
“He fantasizes about himself, he thinks it’s going to cause discomfort. My job is to stop that at all costs.”
They’ve previously rowed, with Eubank Jr. saying, “I’m so disappointed in this guy here because he had so much to say on the internet. So much heat and energy came from his social media.”
“Now? I see a man who does not have the same fire.”
Odigan asked, “Why didn’t you fight me the first time?”
“Because you were fat,” Eubank Jr. said.
Odigan: Three kilograms.. Were you afraid.. Everyone has their excuses.
Eubank Jr then warned him, “I want to make sure you understand this—before you said the things I said, I was just a guy I needed to beat to get to the next guy. There was no grudge.
“After seeing the things you said? I have reason to scare you. I hope you understand the situation you put yourself in.”
Eubank Jr. thought about his opponent’s attempts to shake him up: “If you don’t have the confidence to go out and bid, you’ll get hurt.
“The guy is 28-1 so he knows what he’s doing.
“I don’t underestimate him at all.
“But I know what I am. I know what I can do. I know what I’m going to do with it on Saturday night.”
Eubank Jr is targeting a return to the ring later this year in a massive fight.
