Asif Ali’s amazing 25no of seven balls led Pakistan to victory over Afghanistan

Babar Azam scored half a century before Asif Ali scored four points per minute to lead Pakistan to victory over Afghanistan for the third time in a row in the T20 World Cup.

Chasing 148 to win, Pakistan looked like they were zipping toward victory thanks to 45 balls and fifty Babar (51 of 47 balls) but when the leader was tossed by Rashid Khan, Afghanistan sensed an opportunity and that hope then turned to faith when Naveen – right Shoaib Malik fell behind in the next time.

That left Pakistan needing 24 of 12 deliveries to win. However, they only needed six of them, with Asif (25 no out of seven) managing to win a maximum of four from Karim Janat (0-48) to keep Pakistan’s 100 per cent start to the tournament.

The Afghanistan disappointment came after they got themselves out of trouble with the bat thanks to a standing 71 run between Muhammad Nabi (35 digits of 32) and Gulbadin Naib (35 digits of 25) which took them from 76-6 to 147-6.

A similar encounter with the ball also proved in vain due to Asif’s superb strike, but Afghanistan remained second in Group B, four points behind Pakistan, after a win and a defeat in their first two matches.
